The incredible, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman is an outspoken supporter of President Barack Obama. It is because of this, that he felt it necessary to address the label that Barack has been pinned with as America’s “first black president.” Freeman feels as though this label is technically wrong given the fact that Barack’s mother is white, and furthermore, this label has made him a primary target by the Republican party.
“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him … they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America. There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”
Freeman then went on to address the backlash that Obama has been constantly receiving from the Republican party and others, for “not getting the job done” and not following through on some of the proposed changes he said he would make to our country prior to his Presidency. Freeman feels as though Barack has been forced to battle against the constant noncooperation from the Republican party since he first stepped into office.
“Barack is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, ‘We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he’s only going to serve one term.’ That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he’s ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts.”
